It's not that simple, but fortunately, Diablo 4's damage calculator can help you master the RPG game and hit the most DPS possible. Not only that, but it's a pretty handy way to learn how numbers work, allowing you to improve your best Diablo 4 builds in the future.

There are a ton of different stats that can appear on the gear in Diablo IV, and at first glance, they all sound pretty good. Damage and melee? Of course, I am a melee equipment. The relationship between injury and vertigo? I use stun. Against poison damage? Yes, this is me too. Unfortunately, due to the way Diablo 4 calculates, not all states are created equal.

Simply put, most damage boost percentages on your gear are additive to each other - so if you have +30% melee damage and +20% core skills, your core skills will deal 50% more damage to the melee enemy's additional damage.

However, there are several attributes that are actually split from this pool and multiply your total reward, meaning they are more effective at amplifying your output. This includes Vulnerability damage, Critical Strike, and your character's primary stat (determined by which Diablo 4 tier you choose).

If this sounds a bit confusing, don't panic. Luckily, this handy tool can help, as it does all the calculations for you. If you're not one to do your own calculations, you can just plug things in and see what works, but if you're curious about the underlying system, it also accurately shows "damage buckets" (as the community named them ) is decomposed.

Each individual box shows how the stats are grouped - if they're within a boundary, they're all added together, and you can then see the boxes multiply along the bottom of the screen to get your final damage and critical damage.
