The January 19th update for FC 25's TOTY introduced several highly anticipated midfielders, bringing fresh blood to the game and providing players with more strategic options. This update features both men's and women's TOTY players, with a particularly noteworthy midfield selection. The addition of men's players like Bellingham, Rodri, and Palmer, alongside women's players like Reiten, Putellas, and Salma opens up new possibilities for squad building and tactical deployment.
Bellingham's release is a highlight of this update. As a midfielder, Bellingham boasts impressive six-stat ratings, with 87 in defending and most other stats above 90. He is well-balanced in both attacking and defensive transitions, making him a versatile midfield option. However, despite his strong attributes, Bellingham's weakness lies in his weaker traits, especially the lack of high-tier gold traits, which might put him at a slight disadvantage against other top-tier players. Therefore, players using this card might need to rely more on his overall stats rather than specific skills.
Rodri is another noteworthy addition. As a defensive midfielder, Rodri's strengths lie in defense and controlling the game's tempo. His defensive stats are very high, and he also performs well in passing and ball distribution. Rodri possesses several gold traits, allowing him to play a crucial defensive role, especially suitable for players who prioritize defense and counter-attacks. Compared to Bellingham, Rodri is better suited as a holding midfielder, effectively disrupting opponents' attacks and supporting the forwards.
Palmer is a relatively affordable and versatile card. While he doesn't excel in any particular skill, his well-rounded abilities make him a multipurpose player. Palmer is suitable as an attacking midfielder or right-sided player. Although his dribbling and traits aren't as strong as other top players, his flexibility and adaptability make him a good value option. However, if you plan to use Palmer as a right-sided player, consider his strengths are more suited to central positions.
On the women's side, Reiten is a left winger or attacking midfielder known for her agility and attacking prowess. Reiten is relatively inexpensive, but her mobility and offensive threat make her a sought-after player. Putellas is a balanced player, although slightly weaker defensively, her attacking contributions are significant, making her suitable as an attacking midfielder.
